Phil Hellmuth

One well known pro poker player that would encourage you to use a UB referral code would be Phil Hellmuth, a UB spokesman famous in the poker world for his ridiculous table antics and multiple World Series of Poker (WSOP) bracelets. Born July 16, 1964 in Wisconsin, Hellmuth was the first of five children and went to school at the University of Wisconsin. He currently lives in California with his wife and two sons.

You wouldn’t think it, but people are encouraged to use a UB referral code when they find out that UB’s most prominent spokesman holds so many outstanding records. The most impressive record is that he has won 1st place in a whopping 11 WSOP tournaments, winning the first one back in 1989 when he was just 24 years old. His most recent bracelet was won in 2007. He created the record for WSOP cashes with an amazing 75 and the most final tables with 41. He ranks in the top ten for total WSOP winnings with $6.1 million won so far in his career. Strangely enough, Hellmuth has still never won a World Poker Tour (WPT) MTT even though he’s made the final table 3 times. He’s actually been able to cash 11 times in WPT tournaments and he has $691k in total winnings. All these accomplishments allowed him to be brought into the Poker Hall of Fame a few years ago in 2007.

While Hellmuth’s MTT poker success certainly allowed him to become a famous figure in the poker world, nothing keeps him in the limelight more than his reputation for outbursts and tirades at the tables. Maybe his success has gone to his head a bit because he has a huge ego, and if you want to make him really angry, lay a bad beat on him. He frequently berates players when they get lucky versus him, insulting them with childish names and calling them stupid. In the 2008 WSOP he actually received a penalty because he kept harassing someone that showed a big bluff he made against Hellmuth. Because of all his antics, poker players and spectators eventually gave him the nickname of “The Poker Brat”.

Interestingly, Hellmuth took his unique nickname and ran with it. You can actually buy clothing or merchandise at www.PokerBrat.com, and you can buy a book that he wrote titled, you guessed it, Poker Brat. He’s actually written several books, he’s made several DVDs, and he even partnered with Oasys Mobile to make a mobile phone poker game. He’s written several newspaper columns called “Hand of the Week” where he details interesting poker hands that he’s encountered during his career, and he writes in blogs for both UB and CardPlayer. And then if you think about all the times he appears on TV at the tables and on reality shows, you’ll see that Hellmuth has more going on than just tournament poker.
